Job Description

Amazon is seeking a proactive and personable International Tax Manager based in Dubai to take ownership of the VAT advisory and compliance function for Souq in the Middle East. The role will be to assist with queries relating to new business initiatives and transactions, process improvements and internal controls.
The candidate will primarily support the business of and will work closely with business members and Amazon’s tax team to coordinate tax return filings, manage projects and deal with audits. The individual will also be expected to work effectively with external advisors.

To be successful, the ideal candidate should possess an in-depth tax technical knowledge and should be able to demonstrate a proven ability to identify and manage tax risks. The ideal candidate will act as the day-to-day contact between different areas with respect to VAT advisory matters and compliance (e.g., Accounting, Legal, Systems, etc.) and must be able to communicate, in both written and verbal form, complex tax concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive indirect tax experience with exposure to international or transactional taxes in a Big 4 public accounting firm, major law firm, and/or a multinational corporation.
  • VAT compliance background including preparation and review of VAT compliance matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration.
  • Good data analytics skills (including proficiency in Excel) and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Arabic an advantage) and ability to interface with all levels of management.
  • Experience and knowledge in accounting concepts and tax regulations, laws and standards.
  • Ability to understand and work with ERP systems.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and accountability combined with ability to work independently with limited general supervision, effectively prioritizing competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player with good leadership skills who is confident in communicating with others and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Organized and methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects, is organized, possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and is able to deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Highly motivated, hard-working, and able to work in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment
  • Professional certification in tax or accounting.
  • Experience and knowledge of international indirect taxes.
  • Experience managing a transactional tax compliance function.
  • Experience working with tax engine systems (e.g. SAP/Vertex).
