Within AWS, as a member of the Kumo Development Team, you will be at the forefront of this transformational technology. You will be surrounded by people that are smart and passionate about cloud computing. The Kumo Development Team develops applications used by our global list of enterprise and business customers and internal AWS service teams.

    The Kumo Development Team is looking for a software development engineer to help deliver new features and architectural improvements to our systems. The systems we own range from a tier-0 event management system to notify our global customers about operational events in a scalable and timely way, to deflect the need for our customers to seek help with AWS operational issues, to improving the efficiency of 100s of our support engineers spread across the globe while resolving customer issues quickly.

    Work in our platform will provide the opportunity to contribute to the complete vertical stack of an SOA based system, which is horizontally connected to most systems in the larger Amazon ecosystem. Areas include service implementation, data store design, web applications, user experience design, usability and accessibility optimization.

    Developers in this position will use a variety of mainstream and open source technologies like Java, C++, Linux, Perl, JavaScript, MySQL, as well as in-house Amazon Cloud technologies.

    Basic Qualifications

    • The technical skills required for this role include strong object-oriented design and programming in Java or C++.
    • Understanding and experience with web based technologies is essential. These may include HTML, HTTP, Javascript, JSON, AJAX, Apache, Tomcat, Ruby on Rails.
    • Experience working pragmatically under deadlines with operational software is highly desired.
    • Project management experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    • SQL skills (MySQL or Oracle) is a plus
    • Data modeling is a plus
    • Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or other quantitative field
